What’s in Your Hands?

In Matthew 25, Jesus gives a parable about a master who entrusts three of his servants with different amounts of money. One servant receives one bag, the next two, and the next servant five bags, all according to their ability. The master then went on a journey. When he returned, he found that each servant had different results, and not all were good. (Read Matthew 25:14-30 to see what happened.)

At first, this may not seem fair; one servant got a single bag while another got five! But be honest, you aren’t Steve Jobs. All kidding aside, God has placed something in your hands, a talent, gift, treasure, or season that you are stewarding.

Whether you are raising kids, exploring the freedom of an empty nester, or launching your next business endeavor, you are uniquely positioned to make a Kingdom impact.

Luke 6:10 NIV

He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored.

In this story, a man had a physical deformity that made him an outsider. This would be something that he would not have displayed publicly or let people know about. What’s interesting is that before Jesus healed this man in a very public setting, He asked the man to stretch out his withered hand. It was when the man surrendered the thing that, most likely, he was most ashamed of, that God was able to heal it.

Maybe today, as you’ve spent time with God this week, He has identified a withered hand in your life, an area that you know is time to surrender to God. This could be a thought pattern, an area you have yet to give control to God in, a simple distraction, or outright willful sin.

The loving Father is asking you today to extend your dysfunction so that He may heal you and fill you with joy and faith, not just for your benefit but for everyone around you.

If God has identified something in your hand that you need to release and surrender, take time to pray, renounce, and repent. This means turning away from your sin or the thing God has highlighted and turning toward God.

Maybe God has highlighted something in your hand that He wants to use for His glory. A talent, treasure, or dream. Pray and ask God what the next step is for you in this area, and choose now to surrender to God what He’s placed in your hands.
