Do you remember as a kid getting away from your parents in the grocery store and hearing your name yelled loudly? You knew exactly who it was—your mom was calling for you!
When you speak to your spouse or kids over the phone, you can hear one word and know who you are talking to.
Hearing God’s voice is not so different, and the good news is, He wants to speak to you more than you know. He wants to encourage you, fill you with faith and hope, and bring you into a deeper relationship with Him.

The more you spend time with God and in His Word, the easier it is to discern His voice and when He speaks to you.
The truth is, sin in our lives and distractions can cause our hearts to become callous toward God’s voice. If you feel distant from God or even unworthy to be in His presence, that is okay. God is a loving Father who runs to us when we take a step toward Him.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” John 15:5-8 NIV

The COST of hearing God’s voice is abiding, or remaining. The word “abide” may sound passive, but it’s an active verb that requires our participation.
The REWARD is intimacy with Jesus and the ability to discern and experience His presence daily. Jesus also promises we will bear fruit. If you need more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, you must remain in Jesus.
Jesus makes it clear that without God, we can do nothing. We are not strong enough, in our own strength, to live out the God-sized dreams and plans He has for us. But if we remain in relationship and reliance on God, He promises that we will grow and bear fruit in our lives that will enrich us and bless others who experience it—all for God’s glory!

How are you positioning yourself to abide in God this week? Maybe this means prioritizing the daily devotional each morning, spending more time in God’s Word, praying Scripture aloud, or journaling each day what God is speaking to you.
|
|
|
Pick one, or all of these things, and get started. God is there waiting to speak to you.

We want to start the week off right with a time of prayer today, bringing our needs and petitions to God.
